šŸ–„ļø Share Your Desktop [2026]

He said that some of this stuff will come back ā€œin some form with stricter rulesā€ (obviously not verbatim) so I will give that a chance.

He also spoke about politics and religion(?) creeping into these lounge threads and overwhelming the small staff, but to tell you the truth, I barely noticed—as a non-partisan my brain is wired to shut out any extremes but my wiring acts like blinders perhaps…

figures…just when the woman-yelling-at-cat memes were making a comeback…

I will wait and see but, I am not holding my breath. I dont know who was getting so offended but I thought most here were adults and could tolerate a bit of ribbing and joking around without getting their panties all up in a knot. Apparently some are not adults and/or easily offended.

If this ^ is indeed how it all went down, then I agree with your synopsis and find it reasonable.

I do enjoy this place every single day but I get the feeling there’s stuff we’re not privy to. Hope the jokes and music come back in some form.

@linux4ever @drunkenvicar

I think the last straw was this thread. Mudita? Anyone out there?

There are actually around two posts on here that were removed before the announcement from Bryan, the two users have been suspended. Or at least I am certain this thread was the last straw since I haven’t seen political issues on the lounge topics within the past few days and I check almost all of them, but then I don’t know why the music and jokes thread was specifically closed and not this thread if this was the case but it is in the lounge ā€œpubā€ category.

I’ve personally never been bothered by politics creeping in every now and then in other threads, it’s involved in everything, this new rule on the forum would essentially mean no one can complain about the expensive hardware prices, privacy, web browsers, VPNs, for example, and I think it will make discussing many topics feel like walking on egg shells for worry of a suspension, comment deletion, or thread closure.

@drunkenvicar
All I can say is you better save any posts you like from the old forum  and partner from a long ago as they will be gone (unless the whole category will be in archived state), maybe even archive the old threads on archive websites. I already archived some of them last year.

I don’t think it will, there were already forum guidelines on politics etc, that the moderation team has let slide and been flexible on many accounts. From their view I think creating another joke or music thread on the promise of not breaking the rules will be the same issue as before, unfortunately.

Obviously this thread isn’t really the right place to discuss this but since it’s already brought up here I am just adding another comment. And If I were to make a whole new thread around it I worry it could blow and cause the very issue again.

That’s a shame. The forum is big enough to promote some long time, trusted users as mods.

I don’t understand this move, but it’s not my forum.

Well, since the desktop thread is not closed yet, I don’t think it will be.
All distribution forums I know have a desktop topic, so I believe EOS will follow.

I can get why jokes and music threads won’t make it, judging by my adolescence experience of being pointed out for having a non-mainstream music taste.

Personally, I believe world would be a better place if people followed a simple rule ā€œdon’t tell anyone what you wouldn’t like to be called yourselfā€.

Just my two cents. I hope a desktop thread will be continued in some form – I love your creativity and I always feel inspired looking at your customisations.

According to this statement it will not.

When you kill the spirit you kill the body.

The share desktop and wallpaper threads will remain in their existing forms. The new category will only eliminate the political and religious sensitive topics.
Linux, software and hardware related topics will also remain on the forum.

The moderation of a public forum is always a difficult task.
There are so many ā€œhotā€ topics: politics, religion, sports, sexism, copyrighted material and more.

Sometimes a temporary ban of a user or a temporary lock of a thread is unavoidable.
Admins and mods need some time to decide the best moves.
Until then, patience.
At the end the locking or unlocking a thread is only a checkbox

(The topic needs cleaning/split some posts in a new topic maybe)

To get back on topic, some things never change… or change only slightly, like the UI font.

Day off, bored, and whilst I do not want AI foisted on me, I really want it to do what I ask. So asked codex-cli to produce some noctalia-shell qml widgets:

Very rough around the edges, but work, simple sticky note app and a BBC Weather widget (plus 2 built in widgets - clock and small weather widget).

Mangowc is the wm.

Little more fun on arm ( OneUp laptop )

final i got arch unsupported Battery kernel module built + start on boot. so no need manual load. still need little test on dkms so it still load after kernel update.

all so setup nice Alpine Linux on uSD ( it be a while i no use Alpine )

it all fun …

No major changes just a new theme, next step change what the theme didn’t, really liking how the purple and yellow go together

Think this is it for now, might play around a bit more with the wallpaper (palm seems a bit big)

New one for me …

Nice.

Is the config for that rofi(?) menu available?

Used kanshi to set up mangowc on dual monitors:

sure .. i cheat litte this , it no my . it get from here

ā€œ https://github.com/newmanls/rofi-themes-collection/tree/master ā€œ

Oops .. I may have posted this in the wrong place a little bit ago. My freshy install and desktop so far

Howdy folks. Been alittle while, but just reinstalled EndeavourOS … I’ve missed it. Between all the distros I’ve tried, and some are real keepers that deserve a partition spot, always in the back of my mind of how much I enjoyed Endeavour. So easy to use and super responsive on this 10 year old laptop.

Glad to be back …

Greetings all! I have literally just moved to EndeavourOS KDE on my main PC from Garuda. Love the simplicity and flexibility of EndeavourOS

Master of the transparency.
