Segmentation fault error when trying to run Kid3 on Plasma

Hey! A couple of weeks ago, I installed Endeavour OS on a Pinebook Pro. Honestly, I’m really loving this operating system—it fits the device like a glove. I installed KDE Plasma as the desktop environment, but when I try to open the Kid3 app from the KDE group, I get a segmentation fault error, as you can see here.

Do you guys know any fix? Honestly, on Plasma 5, there wasn’t the slightest issue.

@sibelius

Welcome to the EndeavourOS forum. I hope you enjoy your time here.

We can start with exactly what you have installed. Here is a list of all the kid3 packages.

There are three of them, are all three installed? Especially kid3-qt

Pudge

Yes. I’ve installed all 3 packages. Thanks for your rapid answer

I have never used kid3,

Let me try and install kid3 on my Pinebook Pro and see if I can recreate the problem.

Pudge

I installed kid3 via pacman on my pinebook pro and got the same results as you did.

I also installed the Flatpak version and still got the same results except Flatpak did not produce a Seg fault error.

So since both the pacman install and the Flatpak install does not launch, something is hosed up.

I suppose the only other thing would be to try installing kid3 on an x86_64 machine and see if that works. If that doesn’t work it is definitely over my pay grade.

I use Kid3 on my x86-64 machine with no problem, though I haven’t used it since the latest Plasma updates this weekend.

Thanks for the feedback.

All we need is to see if kid3 will launch to it’s opening window after the Plasma updates.

Thanks

Pudge

I can confirm Kid3 still works fine on x86-64.

Thanks a ton for your feedback and your interest! I’ve also used Kid3 on another x86-64 distro with Plasma 6 without any problems. That distro is not based on Arch

You are welcome.

Archlinux ARM lagging behind Archlinux x86_64 is common. They don’t have near the budget, resources, or man power that Archlinux x86_64 has. In most situations like this, waiting for a while will usually fix the problem when Archlinux ARM catches up.

Patience is a virtue.

Just so you know - you rock Pudge! I found Endeavor OS a while back, and stayed for the community. That’s even after distro-hopping to Kubuntu and Fedora KDE. I ended up coming BACK to Endeavour! What was I thinking! Now that my sanity has returned, I may try delving into ARM myself. Maybe. I just wanted to say thank you for being here.
