Screenshot fails, all of a sudden

I’ve never seen this happen ever, just this morning hitting the PrtSc keyboard button initiates the typical screenshot window, but just hangs, and never completes. The only thjing I could think of was to uninstall and reinstall the Mate screenshot utility. That didn’t work.

Any ideas?

works on Endeavour Cinnamon.

Off the top of head: broken package? keybinding came undone (is that possible)? if a GUI screenshot works then you can eliminate something. but not sure what. but you probably thought of all this stuff already.

/usr/bin/mate-panel-screenshot from a terminal work? Any output indicating something wrong?

No, same thing- the “save screenshot” windows displays, but then doesn’t complete, just a spinning cursor.

Difficult to know with no output indicating any errors. I haven’t found anything related to this on Arch’s forum either.

Is your system fully updated? If so, and if no one else will come along to help you troubleshoot, perhaps you could consider to file a report to the maintainers here:

I’m running EOS Mate, and the default screen capture does the same thing. As soon as I click save, it hangs indefinitely. I spent alittle time trying to diagnose, but couldn’t find anything.

I installed “FlameShot” and moved on with my day … :upside_down_face:

Thanks @larrys4227, flameshot works! I was about to uninstall and reinstall the entire Mate DE, but I’ll just move on.
