Screen timeout while watching video

just switched over from zorin to eos . now i noticed when i’m watching a downloaded movie on smplayer , the screen goes off every 10min, which my power management plan is set to.
i’ve completely switched off power management (and screensaver which i never use anyway) , and it seems to be fixed .
but i’m almost certain i didn’t have to switch of power management in zorin , for videos / movies to play without screen going off .
is there something i’m missing in EOS ?

Which DE are you using?

xfce

i know , but my mac address was visible and wanted to edit it out.

It’s harmless

It should be stressed, however, that MAC addresses can only identify devices on a local network they are connected to, or within WiFi or Bluetooth detection range. They can’t be forwarded through the network gateway (for example a router), and so MAC addresses can’t be used to track you by someone on the internet.

cool , was trying to be safe , didn’t know that

Now, as far as the screen turning off is concerned, there should be a setting in the power settings that allows you to select “Never” for turning off the display.

I don’t have Xfce installed, so I can’t test it, but I do have the settings manager.

Alternatively, clicking on the switch should turn it off entirely, I believe.

PS: These are the kinds of things images are better for. But for something with lots of text, or even just a short error message, send the text instead.

ok this is what my power manager looks like now , with display switched off.
then i can watch without screen going off after minutes
what i was curious about , i don’t think i had this switched off in zorin though

ps: lappy always on charge

Oh yeah, I forgot about the actual query because you sent your specs. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Doesn’t Zorin use Gnome and not Xfce? If it does, then they may be similar, but not the same would be my answer to why you had to do it manually.

I used it for a few days in the last few months for testing, so I could be wrong. But I’m almost sure it’s a very customised Gnome.

Also, Zorin has a few “optimisations” to make it work more like Windows, so maybe it’s that.

sorry i was on zorin LIte , which is xfce.
anyway not a big deal , i can leave that display power manager off doesn’t bother me .
i just thought there’s maybe some difference in arch i’m missing.
what is curious though , even with that the display OFF in power management , my screens still goes off after 10min, but when i’m watching movie , it stays on now …

What happens when you turn it on, but set each to “Never” instead?

haven’t tried that
ima get back to you , when i watch movie later with those settings

I removed the posts with the MAC address shown. I also removed one reply in the middle that was no longer relevant/understandable with those posts gone.
