Samsung 990 Pro NVME firmware

Hi all,

I used fwupdmgr refresh && fwupdmgr get-updates && fwupdmgr update for quite some time now in the hope it will install firmware stuff for my devices. Sadly for my 2 Samsung 990 Pro’s 4TB version i never got ANY firmware upgrade and whas still using 4B2QJXD7.

I saw this topic and i wanted to share my experiance.

  1. I downloaded the firmware file/iso from here
  2. I used a usb stick with ventoy already preinstalled
  3. I moved the iso to the ventoy stick and rebooted and selected the ventoy drive
  4. You get some linux menu and you can install from over there.

Both of my drives do have the latest firmware, i thought it would be harder to do but it’s pretty easy.

The reason i installed the newer one is because samsung wrote it improved the read-operation stability.

Sounds like Samsung offers some kind of bootable firmware installer.

If you ever find hardware that doesn’t, you can use Hiren’s BootCD PE. It is a live Windows 10/11 environment. I find it very useful for installing firmware.

Yeah they did a great thing with that iso file, it’s bootable. I saw a comment on the samsung forum from a user posting about rufus. I thought, ventoy will probably work as well if i am not wrong.
