Rediscovering DeaDBeeF

I revisited DeaDBeeF a few days ago. And I sure am glad I did. I feel like I “rediscovered” it. It’s so plain and simple upon initial launch. But the customization available is fantastic.

As much as I really like Fooyin and Audacious, I can’t imagine leaving DeaDBeeF again anytime soon.

This is definitely true

I have really tried a lot of music players. Somehow I keep getting stuck with strawberry. It’s a pity that cantata is no longer being developed. Maybe I will install the qt - version again

Yeah, Strawberry is where I’ve settled. The features are enough for me and the sound quality is good. I’ve never heard of cantana though.

Take a look here, it’s in AUR.
@VlPo is enthusiastic about this player

Looks interesting, maybe I’ll give it a go when I get bored of Strawberry

I find cantata has a wonderful sound quality. That stands out

Saw the title, and was reminded of how I liked to initialize 32 bit integers to 0xdeadbeef to create an obvious illegal value.

Cantata is good, I do not argue :+1:
But lately I’ve been using Quimup more often - a very simple player both visually and in terms of capabilities. And that’s what I like about him

I used to spend such a long time tweaking my Deadbeef, and it’s appearance. It’s a great app.

Your layout looks very similar to houw I would have mine too.

Never heard of. It looks like I should install the player

I remember having used Deadbeef in the past on my MX Linux installation.
It ran mostly fine, although from time to time it didn’t want to launch from GUI, so I ditched it in favour of Audacious.
Now, that on my bspwm I tend to use mostly console tools, ncmpcpp and mpv are what I use for local audio playback.

Here, it does not require installation.
Like Cantata, it is an mpd client.

Have you tried playing dsd tracks in Deadbeef?

I don’t know what dsd tracks are. So, it wouldn’t matter to me. I’m strictly FLAC and/or 320 .mp3 at constant bit-rate.

In this case, I agree, Deadbeef is a good choice :+1:

DSD

I’ve never dealt with SACDs or anything in that realm. For FLAC and .320 mp3, I’m good to go. All I really need.

And it’s great when everyone can choose something for themselves, for their requirements :+1:

How is that?
Wouldn’t every app sound the same? Unequalized, that is…

I tried different apps in the apps and use a systemwide EQ, but they are alike. (To me..)
