Something curious; I recently clean installed Neo in a Cinnamon flavor, and have since configured it to my liking. I was searching for something yesterday, and didnt pay attention to the actual address I clicked on, and when it loaded I saw that it was reddit. Has something changed because reddit comes in now? Before my vpn always caused a no access page for reddit to appears. Still running Mullvad, and its working fine…
Just gave it a try and you are right. It seems to be working again. I don’t visit enough anymore to notice.
Maybe they are trying to attract more users. No doubt they took a big hit when they banned third party apps last year.
I always use firefox+vpn(PIA). Never experimented any blocking on Reddit for that.
if you both use Mullvad, its totally possible that they have brought a range (or even multiple) of IPs that was previously flagged. Some datacenters are entirely flagged, so maybe they moved to another one that isn’t.
I think Mullvad VPN updated and inproved their VPN to better hide you.
For the last few weeks I was able to get reddit access but as of yesterday they stopped again.
I haven’t had issues accessing Reddit with Mullvad enabled for at least a month. I noticed about 2 update cycles ago.
Honestly, there were so many issues with accessing reddit without an account in general. I guess that the hit was a culmination of many factors. They probably stopped looking as appealing to advertisers and investors because traffic was on a decline.
They really underestimated how many people will simply click away instead of making accounts, turning off vpns or doing whatever else Reddit wants you to do to be officially blessed enough to look at their site.
You might try redlib
Redlib is great, I have been using it and its predecessor Libreddit for years. I recommend pairing it with the very excellent LibRedirect browser extension.
You can add or rotate public instances of Redlib right in the extension. Then when you click on a Reddit link (from a web search result or whatever), it opens in the Redlib instance you have selected.
@swh and @BluishHumility just had a chance to try out these on two different installs, worked as expected. Thanks Folks!
I am running LibRedirect for a few months because of youtube. Never checked out that little thing for reddit
