Recommended Installation Method

Hi I would like to know, from the more experienced Endevour OS user if online installment or offline installment via USB ISO, I would like to know which one you recommend to use. I seen many just install through online, but other says they recommend install via ISO flashed on USB ? I just want to install the less painful way lol

I always recommend that you use the on line install. This just helps keep it simple as there will be no need to “update” after install. However It also depends on your network. If you don’t have a strong network getting the system installed and then updating may be the easier thing.

Using the online install everything is totally up to date when installed. If you use the offline install it will install the kernel and packages that are currently on the ISO and you would need to run an update after the install. As @thefrog has said it is recommended to always use the online install method unless there is a reason you are unable to.

Hi that makes a lots of sense, thank you very much for the information, and more question I see some use systemD or grub sorry if I sound like a ignorant but I like to learn, so what is the recommended settings for that ? I see some just install in SystemD config other install grub ?

Ok awesome so I will just go for the online install it sound straight forward, I guess I do not either have to go into boot right ? because I will not use a USB as a drive ? I prefer asking like a dumbass to be absolutely sure I am installing Endevour OS as butter smooth as possible lol

That really is going to be dependant on how you want to set things up. The Default is Systemd, Its what I use and I have no issues however I don’t dual boot.

Hi I have no intentions to dual boot I am going to use Endevour OS as daily driver, so will SystemD be the right option ?

I think you misunderstand. You still have to boot off of the live ISO (usb) Both the online and offline install are run the same way. When the installer is launched you select offline or online install. Or maybe I’m misunderstanding what you are saying?

You can use systemd-boot which is the default or you can select to use grub. Your choice.

not a pro/have only installed Endeavour four times.

  1. ventoy never works as an install medium for Endeavour [for me]. Not once. I give Endeavour ISO it’s own stick.

  2. Once install is underway, I have chosen online every time. I did it the first isntall and appreciated it’s ease.

4/4 times, 100% success rate with this 2-step method.

END: listen to Rick UEFI all the way. I have made dual boots work with Endeavour. Install Endeavour second. Of course this can go down in flames sometimes…
@thefrog is right–if you can donate a disk all alone for your distro its mostly foolproof

Hi sorry I am asking because I am totally newbie lol, so better ask that not knowing anything

Understand that the offline option installs the KDE desktop. The online option allows you to choose a desktop or none at all.

Hi thank you Endevour OS is up and running and man I like it I choose the KDE version, I tried Gnome but I honestly do not like the new gnome look and feel I liker the old Gnome where dock is on the left side. Anyway the only minor issue I had was the keyboard I could not type @ but now as you can see it is fixed. And I really enjoy using Endevour Also I have been installing different apps and browsers. Only last issue I have is Brave I want to uninstall it because it act strange constantly asking me about KDE wallet ? I anyway are using Zen browser. So questing 1 how do I uninstall Brave 2 Anyone knows how to install Proton VPN Since I am a paid user ? 3 How to install nextDNS ? nice to be onboard here

Never had problems.. maybe you were using an old version of ventoy..

or my usb was on its way out…I’ve heard stories around here from some ventoy users there is always “that one” distro that won’t install from Ventoy. It’s never the same one. For me it was Endeavour.

I haven’t had anything that I can’t install from Ventoy lately. A couple of years ago, there were a few.
