qBittorrent drops network connection

My EnOS’s network connection dropped every time I fired up qBittorrent. Anyone has a clue? Thanks.

Are you able to try on a different network to confirm it’s not a network / ISP policy?

Always use a VPN with qbittorrent…always!

I doubt it, the network icon will pop a “Limited Connectivity” on my Plasma desktop.

Have you tried to limit the download speeds within qBittorrent ? It might be the case that without any download limit qBittorent may saturate your whole connection and therefore browsing might be sluggish at the same time. Depending on your ISP connection, I would only allow 50% of the bandwidth for torrents.

I’m not sure if this is possible, but if it is, then maybe it is a VPN issue.

I’ve occasionally come across sites, torrent sites, that were inaccessible when using my main browser without a VPN. The same site could be accessed in my other browser that has the VPN turned on.

So, it’s clear that an ISP can block a website.

What I am not sure about is whether they can automate throttling/severing a user’s internet connection once the user’s devices are connected to sites or IPs in countries or regions they want to restrict access to.

In any case, I agree with @MrSmartepants. Unless ALL your torrents are stuff like Linux ISOs, open source apps, etc., and not considered “piracy”, then you should use a VPN when torrenting.

Gone are the days when people used to torrent without consequences. Some governments may not be strict about “piracy” because they have more important things to deal with. But companies, including ISPs, are. This isn’t the 2000s anymore.

I think the qBittorrent is overwhelming or triggering something in the network stack rather than qBittorrent simply losing its connection. so check whether it happens only when downloading and temporarily lower the connection limit and disable UPnP/NAT-PMP. Also check journalctl or NetworkManager logs at the exact moment the connection drops. If the whole system loses network access, the logs should help show whether it’s the driver, NetworkManager, firewall, or qBittorrent itself.
