Problems with wine; e-sword modules

Hi,

I have downloaded and installed e-sword-12 Linux from the original website.

I run it with wine, but the download modules are frozen, better a capture:

Then I uninstall wine and install wine-staging and wine-tricks, but I have the same problem, doesn’t download the modules.

On Manjaro it works fine, I assume I might need something else to install here, and I rebember too that on Debian with ‘winehq’ it was working fine but i don’t see who to get it in AUR, any suggestions?.

Thanks a lot and best regards

If my memory serves me correctly, this has support for e-Sword modules. It can be found on repositories.

I have it installed, and it downloads the modules, and works correctly in openSUSE, so I think it must be a problem with wine.

EDIT:

I just tried to change to ‘wine-stable’ and after more than an hour ‘compiling’ AUR didn’t finish installing it, failed.

Definitely the problem is with Wine, in order to check something, I go back to the e-sword application and when I pass the mouse cursor I see that the options were no longer frozen … I apply in each one of those that I need and all the modules enter; so that although it did not install wine-stable some ‘other thing’ this one put in that hour and a half that was compiling – and to confirm to me that it has been thus I went to the other machine (I am mounting Endeavouros in two laptops) and I make the same operation … same result, wine-stable fails but … it managed to install the modules.

Something is wrong with Wine that doesn’t work, something is missing; although in this ‘tricky’ way I managed to do it, I can’t consider the matter as solved – I just leave here a notification of what happened in case maybe some developer …

Greetings.

Keep in mind that Wine is primarily intended for games.
That software requires the Windows Media Player explicitly.

Stick to their installation guide. Beside a stable version of wine you’ll need winetricks as well.
And you should run winetricks -q wmp11

As an alternative. Use a full VM instead of Wine and install it in there.

It’s just that I also have a chess program app, ‘Peshka’, that doesn’t open completely, it breaks, and it’s not the program because on other systems with wine9.9, wine9.15 and 16 installed no problems have occurred – there were no problems on them with e-sword either.

*winetricks was the first thing I installed and winetricks -q wmp11 did not solve the issue.

The problem occurs only in this version of wine.

Thanks.

EDIT:

And to reconfirm to myself that it is this version of wine, I uninstalled > purged wine from the system and this time installed wine again from pacman like this:

$ sudo pacman -S wine wine-mono wine-gecko wine-mono wine-gecko winetricks

*The options in e-sword are frozen again and ‘Peshka’ is broken …
