Problem solved: Viewing connected usb devices in gui

Hello.
i’m new to EOS, having used mint for years, and being accustomed to seeing devices listed in File Manager.

I’ve read some posts related to this topic but without finding a resolution.

I can’t see my usb-connected phone tether, neither on desktop nor in the start menu.
Would some kind soul point out what I’m missing?

Thanks for reading

Greetings and welcome to EOS and the forum.

If you share a little more info about which program you’re using, we will have a better chance of getting you some help (e.g., thunar, kate, dolphin, nnn…?) There may also be an issue with your tethering device itself that could be getting in the way.

Thanks for answering this. Really appreciated.
Was trying gnome, which is where I had the “problem”.
Since completed a re-insall with xfce and I’m enjoying it much better (I had some experience with this DE in the past, and it seems to be “coming back to me” as I go along.
Once again: thanks.
Cheers

I only see my phone when it is in the “File Transfer” mode in the file manager.

It never shows in the file manager when in “USB tethering” mode.

I use Nemo as file mamanger. DE is GNOME 49.

Thanks.

Imprecise language on my part: I had my PC “slaved”, tethered, to my phone, connected via usb

What phone? Android or iOS?

I recently switched from Nautilus to PCmanfm, I found out to have my usb devices listed I needed to install udisks2 and gvfs, one of those packages is a dependency of another. Maybe that works for whatever file-manager @Textilis is using as well? I did read that for KDE Plasma/Dolphin it might be a different package since I saw KIO being mentioned somewhere in the Archwiki.

thanks for the response
I ditched KDE/gnome for XFCE
Just coming back to linux after a long break, and before that, years of using Mint like it was windoze
I find xfce somehow more familiar, easier to navigate.
The “problem”, if indeed it was a prob and not just my ignorance, has resolved itself.
thanks again

Was trying KDE/gnome
Now switched to XFCE and enjoying it.
Thanks for your response
