Problem booting. a grub message I've never seen before

Hi all, hope someone can help me.

I’m having to type this on my phone.as my computer has shut me out. For no explainable reason (I’ve not done anything to it) it doesn’t boot up as it always used to.

I Just get a grub message and I have no idea what to do next. This computer has my work on it so I really need it to cut this out and work properly.

It says:
GRUB loading.
Welcome to GRUB!

error: invalid arch-independent ELF magic.
Entering rescue mode…
GRUB rescue>

Many thanks in advance

I’d venture to say your grub configuration has gone south OR your kernel is corrupted. Neither a good thing usually.
Did you play with something like grub-customizer? Is your hard drive going bad ?

Literally done nothing aside from business as usual. Just switched it on to do some paperwork and got this.

Well did you apply an update before you switched it off last ?
Anyway, you can try the fallback kernel, or move into rescue boot from an installation ISO and try to repair it.
Good luck.

No update, but that sounds like a solution. How do I try this fallback kernel?
