Preserve old movies

Hej

Having some DVD movies I want to ´preserve´on a HDD, what is the best way to do that - what program to use for extracting, so to speak?

For such projects I use either makemkv or handbrake

Best is to use makemkv, it will save the main movie as mkv file format
The file is stripped from protections and playable on almost every pc, or other device

I would suggest Handbrake for specific extractions (your vacation in Guam footage, for instance)..but it will also work for the whole DVD. Handbrake edits to your time numbers. USER TIP: Use their version/estimation of your time numbers (0.0001-4.00.00.00 etc), not another apps numbers (VLC for instance). I always had to make modifications to their numbers but I should just stop :). It’s an effective extraction app.
