Preferred graphical apps in WM environments

Hi friends!

I’d like to know your opinion…

What are your preferred graphical applications — file manager, archive manager, PDF reader, image viewer, media viewer, text editor, and so on — to use in a Niri/Hypr/XXX environment?
GTK apps (ex. Thunar), Qt apps (Pcmanfm-qt), GNOME apps (nautilus), KDE apps (dolphin)…?

Thanks!

Running Hyprland:

  • File Manager: Dolphin
  • PDF Viewer: Okular
  • Code editor: Code

Pretty much everything else is text-based.

Running Plasma.
Use the built-in tools.
Simple

File manager: I use a TUI file manager, but if you really need GUI, Thunar is a good option
PDF viewer: Zathura
Image viewer: I use primarily imv, but also have feh installed for RSS reasons
Media player: mpv

The rest, apart from web browsing, GIMP and LibreOffice is terminal workflow.

it’s been a while but when I used i3, dwm, and qtile I recall also using this file manager via terminal:

I stepped over from ranger to yazi a little while ago.

nice will check it out! thx

Gotta say as a wm user (dwm & i3wm) I prefer TUI apps. I’ll leave the gui stuff for DE/ Wayland types.

For me the it depends on what I am doing what interface I prefer. If the UI fits my needs for the task I am doing is what matters.

Mostly KDE applications

Currently running LXQT with Openbox.

Freetube/GrayJay for Youtube videos (subscriptions)
Geany for GUI Text Editing and Micro/Nano for TUI text editing
Blueman for GUI bluetooth managment and bluetui for a TUI
Alacritty for Terminal
pacseek to search for and install programs (TUI)
paru to just install programs i already know the names of
Zen for Web Browsing and every now and then Helium/Brave
Qbittorrent for torrenting ISO’s of different distro’s
Recently Meteo-qt for current local weather.

I should try this again, I remember really liking it when I switched from windows
