Power flickered last night due to high winds, now a monitor won't come out of standby

Last night, there were high winds in my area. Computer was never bothered. One of my monitors went dark and won’t come out of standby. I’d turned off my UPS when I shut down, thinking freshly powering things on would help. When I turned the UPS back on, the monitor turned on, but won’t react to the PC. I’ve tried the DisplayPort cable in different ports on the GPU, but the OS doesn’t see the monitor. It was working perfectly previously. This monitor’s barely two years old.

This is confusing…

You say the Computer was never bothered by the storm, but one of your monitors went dark.

Then you said you had turned the UPS off - then I would be surprised if your monitor and computer would still be working.

  1. Unplug everything and mess around, pressing the power button for 15 seconds, stuff like this can help discharge any power or charge in the system.

  2. Same with the PC.

  3. Check the monitor on it’s own, turn on the OSD menu - this might narrow it down, if it works, then sure - maybe the monitor got no signal.

  4. Can you try plugging a HDMI cable in, plug in a TV, then your monitor… this will eliminate the monitor or the HDMI output.

  5. Test the monitor on another device - this would put the error in your PC.

  6. Stop crying, just get your money out and buy a new GPU :stuck_out_tongue:

  7. If you can’t afford a new GPU, start a FundMe, say that you went on holiday and rented a scooter in Pattaya and need money for the hospital.

Jokes aside @Ben  points 1-5 are reasonable troubleshooting steps :+1:

Was the monitor powered via the UPS too @steelwing? Presumably, that would have protected it from any potentially damaging power spikes caused by high winds. The wind might just have been coincidental to an unrelated issue.
