After an abortive attempt to review Shebang, there’s a review of the latest EndeavourOS ISO with the KDE desktop.
“EndeavourOS turned out to be pretty close to what I was hoping to experience this week - a capable, well performing, stable distribution based on Arch. It wasn’t the distribution I set out to explore, but I liked where I found myself at the end of the week.”
When app store is done in a good way, it can be really nice addition, but personally I like nowadays know what I am installing and what dependencies it is going to require. I think when considering mobile phones, app store is good choice, but I think installers (in Windows, I personally detested especially Microsoft’s choice to create Microsoft Store) and package managers (in Linux) are best way to go.
Yeah, hated the MS Store also. Repos are also a thing I didn’t like about Linux and one reason why it took me quite long to finally make the switch. On the other hand it led me to Arch/EOS because of the AUR. Still not as simple and handy as .exe files.
Actually, (for me), I prefer the AUR over the chaos of exes downloaded from you don’t know where, installing DLLs that may cause issues everywhere (including Windows/System*), and all the other funny business.
In my opinion EOS doesn’t need a software store. I prefer the AUR and I don’t use flatpaks or snaps or app images. I think it would cause more problems.
