The final of the “Copa 71” between Denmark and Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City is watched by 110,000 spectators, making it the most-attended women’s sporting event to date. Despite the home advantage, Mexico lost 3-0, with all three goals scored by 15-year-old Susanne Augustesen. These are the kind of facts and figures that linger in the memory after major soccer tournaments and are still circulating among soccer enthusiasts decades later - at least that’s how it should be. But instead of public recognition, the players were humiliated for their participation and FIFA still refuses to recognize the tournament as a World Cup. The first FIFA Women’s World Cup did not take place until 20 years later.

:germany: will be favourites after beating :england: 2-1 in the group stage, despite making 11 changes to the starting lineup (having already qualified). But in a one off match anything can happen… :soccer_ball:

It will definitely be a very interesting match.

:germany: has a very good class on the pitch
I can’t assess :england:, I haven’t seen them play enough for that

A lot can happen in a final. Let’s wait for the kick-off and the final whistle :soccer_ball: :trophy:

Yes, I’ve read about it too. That’s really dramatic. Hopefully she will soon be fit again. This kind of illness is really not to be trifled with.

I only switched on in the 30th minute. The way the presenters were talking, :england: were clearly better. The goal just before the break was worth its weight in gold. It’s going to be an exciting second half
