Okay so I used my brothers laptop this morning. I went to the EndeavourOS website and downloaded the torrent. Then it said to download bittorrent so I did that as well. I uploaded the downloaded file to bittorrent and then I had to wait a while. I put the file on an empty usb drive (a 64gb one) but I have no clue what to do so forth. On the website there was also a button with magnet in it, i tried clicking on it but nothing happened.
Just for the records: You can not overwrite /etc/mtab
with anything. Regardless if with sudo or without. /etc/mtab
is a link to /proc/self/mounts
which is a pseudo file residing in the kernel memory.
Who told you to do a cat /proc/mounts > /etc/mtab
? This is twofold nonsense. First, /etc/mtab is readonly and second, /proc/mounts
and /etc/mtab
and /proc/self/mounts
are all the same file. The original is /proc/self/mounts
, the other two are just links.
I am completely lost to understand what you try to achieve.
Hi again. After you have transferred the .ISO file to the USB, then the next step is to insert it into your computer, turn your computer on, then press F12 repeatedly.
The actual âBoot Optionsâ button may be anyone from F8-F12.
Pressing this button will either give you a âBoot Optionsâ menu or send you to your âBIOS Settingsâ. In this case, you want to get to the âBoot Optionsâ so that you can boot using the USB with the .ISO file you downloaded.
Once you are able to do so, then you can try to transfer your files to another device or to the cloud, and finally, you can decide if you would like to install the OS from the .ISO.
We are very helpful in this forum, even for complete beginners, but the OS itself is not made for Linux beginners. So, as I said before, I would recommend another OS if you choose to keep using Linux.
You need an USB drive to continue get your files off the computer and then you can decide whether to you wanna reinstall a linux system.
Do you have 1 at hand?
Obviously you can access the forum from another device, where you hopefully can plug in the usb drive.
EDIT: what system is your broâs laptop?
