Please help system is randomly crashing

Over the last couple pf weeks my system is randomly crashing, which I can only recover with a hard reboot. The crash usually happens when browsing but nothing odd, and at least I can’t see anything consistent. I’ve looked through the logs and I can’t seem to find anything that I can decipher/ point me in the right direction. I’m attaching my logs (as a pdf because I couldn’t attache the txt file) from the last boot that crashed. Any help is appreciated.
eos-log-tools.logs.pdf (515.7 KB)

I, a dummy, read/skimmed all 140 pages and it it was not til that last 3-4 pages that the errors started fast and furious.

the last being:
Dec 17 16:09:09 hostname kernel: [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] ERROR Process
information: process kwin_wayland pid 1277 thread kwin_wayla:cs0 pid 1328
Dec 17 16:09:09 hostname kernel: amdgpu 0000:07:00.0: amdgpu: GPU reset begin!

preceded immediately my google chrome socket errors (the trigger for ^^?).

Likely someone will piece this together. good luck

Thanks, I saw those too, just don’t know how to interpret them, nor if they were the real error or the side effects of something else.
Like you said hopefully someone else can help me piece it together.

GPU may be not getting enough power from PSU, GPU may be dirty and overheating, etc. And those are just hardware possibilities.
When you go into software, there are many possible issues, including kernel changes, try LTS kernels.
Essentially everything in the world could be wrong, you can only either intuitively grasp it or start trying things one by one and ruling possibilities out.

It seems like you are using Plasma Desktop. Try switching to the X11 or Wayland (depending on what you are using currently) and see if that helps.

Thanks I’ve been thinking the same thing, wondering if it’s hardware failing. The GPU is integrated, but I’ve not opened it up to see if the cpu fan needs cleaning. As for software, I just switched from the regular kernel to the LTS one hoping that might fix it, which it didn’t. Either way thanks for the direction.

I’ll bang at it a bit more, I’m hesitant to switch to X11 as I’m trying to move all my stuff ti Wayland, but as you’ve pointed out switching will give me more info.

Is this a common issue? I’m getting random crashes/reboots too. I tried to make my own thread, but the forum software didn’t allow to post the logs, said they were too long.

Something is probably wrong with your gpu.

Use pastebin.

Try updating mesa. I have heard about something being wrong with mesa and amd gpus.

please use eos-sendlog to post logs.

cat /path/to/log/log.log | eos-sendlog

copy the url and paste here.

That’s a good idea I’ll give mesa-git a try to see if that helps or makes it worse

here is a link to the last log that failed. It’s been inconsistent so capturing it has been difficult. In any event thanks for looking it over.

I just switched from mesa to mesa-git, hopefully that will help, I will post new logs if it crashed again.
@thefrog if you do happen to look over the old logs I’d be really interested if you find anything else I could try.

have you tried turning it off and on again

 yep multiple times
