This has been something that has irritated me for a while, and has finally come to a head.
I am currently working around an issue with a game using gamescope with the borderless flag. This is necessary as using borderless from within the application results in a white border on the upper and left borders. Other options to achieve borderless fullscreen also result in dodgy behaviour (fullscreen results in some substandard performance). However, gamescope runs into the issue where the panels do not respect it and stay above the screen.
Is anyone aware of how to get the panel to behave correctly with this, or hide behind the borderless application? The behaviour of “Dodge Windows” goes some way to achieving it, but creates tedium in navigating outside of this specific scenario. I have not found any documentation on resolving this behaviour.
Apologies if this is the wrong section to create the topic, but this seems plasma specific over creating an issue with gamescope.
Alternatively if there is a better replacement for these panels, that is also welcome advice.
On the borderless app you should be able to press Alt+F3 > More Actions > Configure Special Application Settings > Add Property > Keep above other applications > Change 'apply Initially' to 'Force' > Select 'Yes" > Apply.
You can also acces this via System Settings > Window Managment > Windows Rules

This does get it to cover the panel, but makes changing to a different window a completely nonfunctional, which is something I’m trying to avoid. Ideally when the window has focus, the panel is hidden, but I do not know if this is possible, as I’ve not found any reports presenting a solution.
Then instead of Keep above other applications, you might want to look into the Layer property. You will probably have to test between the different layers to find the correct one. You might also have to adjust the layers of the panel.
If it still doesn’t work, you can also put you game on a different virtual desktop and switch desktops to acces you other windows instead of just switching windows, not a perfect solution but better than nothing …

Could not resolve the behaviour with Plasma (either due to unfamiliarity or removed features from Plasma 5 rearing their head again), however, I did resolve some of the other behaviours forcing this to be a pursued solution. So unfortunately, didn’t resolve the issue I was trying to resolve but at least the faults causing it are sorted.
