Boring OpenboxâŚ
Openbox has been considered feature-complete and essentially a finished project since at least 2010 â occasional maintenance is done only when needed. So the lack of releases isnât abandonment so much as intentional stasis.
However, there is some movement on the Debian side: Debian accepted 3.7~rc2 into their experimental repository in October 2025, which suggests someone is working toward a 3.7 release, 
Man⌠I thought I would never witness such a thing. 
People expect endless updates these days, but updates for the sake of updates often lead to enshitification. Feature complete software isnât abandoned as long as any (probably rare) security flaws get fixed.
Now, I suppose the effort is going into labwc development, the spiritual successor to Openbox for Wayland. I am using it on a resource-constrained laptop with Dank Material Shell, and it works perfectly.

I did a try on labwc maybe half a year ago. Mabox labwc experiment period. And tried some others. I was prob inpatient. To many buggs and Oh yeah I used a nvidia. But glad to hear it can run nicely. Will give it another tryâŚ
While this is generally true and I second everything I just quoted, this just does not fit for KDE. KDE is not a single software. Itâs a whole suite - completely different kind of beast. I know that you know, not here to correct you, but to emphasize this point.
This is a fair point, but I would argue that KDE, in general, are not making changes for changes sake. There will come a time in the far distant futire where they might be
