Plank error

Just installed Neo. Installed plank. After install I tried both plank command, and sudo plank command. Both through an error. Anyone know what the problem is?

[g@g-xps8940 ~]$ sudo plank

does it launch fine and healthy from the menu?

What is your DE? KDE, GNOME, XFCE … etc

I’ve only tried it from terminal. At work right now…

Cinnamon

Found this thread.

Not sure if it’s related to my problem. I guess if the default for Neo is Wayland it could be the reason why plank is erroring out.

what is output of this command
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

x11
Guess its something else. Ive installed it twice and I get the same errors. I dont think I need to run it as root, but I wanted to see what did. It gives a little more info on whats going on, but its over my head.

Interesting. I tried starting it from the menu, and it started up fine. Kind of stupid that it wont run from the terminal. At any rate, thanks for that :+1:

In Cinnamon you should be able to make it autostart from settings. Not certain why you try running it from terminal though.

Experience has taught me: strange chatter in the terminal output is not necessarily an indicator of much. like @Dinomonster said, autostart Plank and be done with it. you can give yourself an ulcer in the terminal
