(pipewire) trying to raise my audio bit depth from 16 to 32

so if you’re setting your default lower, but adding the option of going higher, then it auto adjusts? my default because i dont have it set, is at 48000, so that might have been why

yeah i saw the “you HAVE to get an amplifier if you’re getting a DAC” but honestly you’d only need that if it was too quiet surely? also apparently you can get 2 in 1’s so if im only concerned with playing at a maximum 48000khz at 32 bit depth then i dont need to bother with a high end one that goes up to 1 billion khz or something

Depends on the headphones you’ve got. I can’t really tell if you’ve purchased some hard to drive planars, or if it’s just an consumer pair of headphones.

But one thing which definitely worth investigating would be if there are any frequency response measurements available for the headphones you’ve got. And, more importantly, AutoEQ settings.

5-40000hz, headphones are DT990PROX from beyerdynamic, will look into it thanks

Can’t find any user contributed AutoEQ settings for that specific model, only for the non X versions or the non Pro.

Nevertheless, as those are wired headphones, there are definitely some headphone dongles available that should perform better then the audio chipset of your motherboard and that won’t be to expensive.

Only to mention one of the latest reviews there : JCally JM 20 headphone dongle which shouldn’t be that expensive (less than $30.00 on aliexpress).

If those would be a good mach for your beyerdynamics ? I guess you’ll figure it out.

yeah i had a look at all that, seems the autoEQ instructions for easyeffects is outdated and also like you said i dont have a setting for those (i think they recently came out?) but yeah, ill have a look at the dongle stuff thanks, also did more testing, got the auto sampling thing to work i think something i had open was interfering with it

To apply EQ filters via easyeffects you’ll have to install lsp-plugins-lv2 as well. It’s an optional dependency, not an required one.

realised why my wav file was playing at 16, its because im a moron and was playing a wav file that was s16le, not 32, genuinely no clue where i got 32 from

i see, thanks

Yes, but you don’t even need to set the default lower, it can be 96000 if you prefer.

I guess what I am trying to say with this video is who cares, unless yer producing music it makes no difference..leave it all at 16bit.
