Pinebook Pro new install w/ LXQT fails

On 2025/01/25, I got the latest install image for Pinebook Pro (PBP) laptop.
I put it on an SD card in the PBP. I booted via Tow-Boot the SD card.
I picked LXQT as the graphical interface.
The install mostly worked, but failed with a conflict of two packages.
Upon reboot, there is no graphical login; just command lines.
I can login as myself and as root. I can update packages.
But do not know which packages need to be updated to get the graphical login.

I did another clean install, but picked the first graphical login (KDE?).
That install updated over 300 packages and mostly worked.
Doing Ctrl-C at the end of the install got an error message, not a command line prompt. Doing a reboot got the graphical login.

Welcome to :enos: arm!!

Could you tell us what those packages are? That would help us diagnose what went wrong with the installation. It’s likely that those two packages were responsible for lack of GUI.

Is there any reason you did Ctrl-C at the end of install? What was the error message?

Is the system working well? Any issues?

When you had LXQT installed, did you choose Openbox or Kwin ?

I do not recall ever getting a choice.
Perhaps that would have come after the point where it quit.

Later today, I will do a test install of LXQT on the pinebook pro and see if I can duplicate this problem.

I did three test installs

  1. LXQT on Pinebook Pro
  2. LXQT on RPi 5
  3. LXQT on Odroid N2

All failed to bring up the sddm graphical log-in window.
So this is not a Pinebook Pro problem, it is a problem in the image.

Will look into this as soon as possible and see about getting new images released in github
