Picking Hardware

… honestly, part of the problem is that I live about an hour away from a MicroCenter store … it’s hard to say no when I have the 64G package of DRAM sitting right in my grubby little paw

Since the title is picking hardware… What wifi card is recommended on desktop, something fast and supported on Linux? Open source drivers out of the box thing?

I’ve been using the TP-Link brand. They have Broadcom on all the ones i have bought. BCM4360 chip AC Dual Band. Newer AX Wifi chip will be different.

Edit: Not sure if it the BCM 4362?

Ok! Thought Broadcom are not implemented in kernel or difficult, same with atheros. How do you guys check? Compatibility list on Ubuntu site? Haven’t checked on arch wiki yet.

No it’s not but they work on the broadcom-wl-dkms which is on EndeavourOS.

Just an article I found through search engines, but maybe worth looking into https://www.addictivetips.com/buying-guides/best-pci-e-wireless-cards-linux/

Can you share a link to where you bought that gaming pc?

I ended up going with these guys.

An interesting thing is that when you customize a PC, the price ends up totally different depending on which config you start with, even if the end config is exactly the same.

I would warn that I have no experience with them so I can’t vouch for them either way.

@Christopher67 - if you are looking to configure a fully custom built PC, you might want to check these guys out too … https://xoticpc.com/ No interest in them other than I bought a Sager laptop from them about 5 years. I was happy with their communication, service, etc. and still have that laptop in daily use today.
