Edit
There’s a seperate UK petition, which is also mentioned on the site. Just scroll down, this it the link to the UK petition.
A Stop Gaming, Start Living petition? — My vote for sure.
Yeah, OK OK, I’m old and never was a gamer… 😂Probably worth signing, it’s the same with books, and that really nags me!
Well that depends. Who is this petition going to piss off? IF they are in my list of crooks and heinous actors then yeah I can get on a VPN and sign this. ![]()
One quick question though, I am assuming that people from UK will not be able to participate in this, because of Brexit and what not. Is that correct?
Well, we’re not in the EU any more, so I presume we will be excluded.
Signed!

There’s a link to the UK petition on that same website if you scroll down a bit.
If you scroll down in the site there is a link to the UK petition, here’s the link. Don’t sign with a vpn because that would invalid the signature because they ask some resident data as well to make sure you from where you say you are from.
Signed, but going by the government response, it doesn’t look good.
If it gets the attention of either the UK or the EU it will probably go world wide. So it will still do good to get as many people as possible to sign.
I need my computer with some games… ![]()
Allright let me stir up some controversy.
Assume that I am a Russian. Can I sign this petition? Pretty Please. ![]()
If you are a Russian living in the EU or UK then yes, if not not because then it would be an invalid signature.
I already did
i live and work in Serbia
but i still have my Swedish citizenship
(were i was born)
Everyone NEEDS to sign this!
Not being eligible to sign, I followed the link anyhow just to learn about the issue.
Am I to understand that game merchants who develop/sell games that require some kind of server support to function properly would be required to provide that support open-endedly, i.e., forever - whether the business continues to make sense or not?
It’s like insisting that something being rented is instead fully owned. Doesn’t that seem unrealistic? ![]()
No it’s about games being sold as a product but in reality being rented meaning they can end access to the game at any point even single player games. So it’s all about having an end of life plan whether that be giving it to the community to host server or stripping down the game so that’ it’s still in a playable state when the servers go offline., cause right now they can end it at any time and you lose access to the game and they keep your money that you paid .
Watch one of the videos about the campaign, the first one being the short version.
Excellent explanation and pitch. And I can certainly empathize with this point of view and fully honor your energy and effort.
It seems to come down to a fundamental misunderstanding (intentional?) of what one is actually buying. Apparently, in the game space it’s not true ownership but merely a license to use something the consumer doesn’t actually own for some period of time.
I agree 100% that consumers should have the basic right to be properly informed as to what they’re actually getting for the price they’re paying. This way, those who don’t like the terms of the offer can simply refrain from obtaining for it.
Terms of what you’re getting should be clearly and prominently disclosed. Basic consumer protection. Kudos for pushing the issue to the front.
But whether software developers/vendors should be forced to offer particular terms is another matter.
Personally, I’d rather let the free market settle just what kind of product offerings are worth particular prices. Mandating such details is often the kiss of death for innovation and consumer choice.
I don’t “buy” Kindle books because I understand that I don’t own them. Others seem to be okay with buying ether. To each her/his own.

Exactly. If you don’t like the practices of a game company, don’t pay for their games. Money (or lack thereof) speaks MUCH louder to a game company than petitions.
I think the point is that by the time you know their practices it’s too late, they’re not going to give the money back!
It’s about how something is sold as a product but in reality a lease, those are two different things. The point of the petition is to get enough signatures that the EU will seriously have to look into it to hopefully get the laws updated regarding consumer rights and videogames and digital products. As long as the laws don’t get updated companies will do whatever they want, with your reasoning there shouldn’t be laws to protect people against gambling addiction.
All I can say is I have never bought a game that requires an online connection to run. Why? Because when that started it was obvious to me that if the developer went out of business you were S.O.L. as far as playing the game went.
