Partition name and label “endeavouros” for automated Calamares installation

When I install EOs with Calamares using the automated defaults (Btrfs), “endeavouros” is set as the label and also as the partition name for the root partition. Because I don’t want to see this later in the file manager, I have to boot into live mode again after the installation to change these labels (usually with the names “root” or “System”).
Why isn’t it called “root” right away, I’m worried that changing it later could have consequences. The UUID is used as the identifier for mounting, but who knows …

A few things:

  • We call it endeavouros because many people dual-boot and this let’s them clearly see which is the EOS partition.
  • Changing the label shouldn’t have any impact. We don’t use it for anything.
  • If you want to, you can change the config file where that is set prior to launching the installer. It is set in /etc/calamares/modules/partition.conf

Thanks @dalto , this explanation helps me and the reason for the naming is also understandable to me. I will certainly try out the possibility of changing the config.

One more question in this context: Does it matter in any way if there are capital letters in the label of a partition, e.g. “System” or “Root”, or should this be avoided?

It doesn’t matter.
