Nothing scary to my eyes, mate. I can only see a respectful, wise, middle-aged man, with a rolling upgradable social status model!!!
This is freaking awesome!
All hail the mighty EndeavourOS.
Thank you to everyone who made this happen, outstanding.
Peace and love and keep singing the song of life!
Well done
I tried running the installer by assigning PCI Gen4 in the BIOS on a machine with an RTX 5090, but it didn’t work. It doesn’t seem to be a PCI Gen5 compatibility issue.
Fortunately, I was able to capture an error during the installer boot, where this single error appears before the screen goes completely black:
[17.829931] [drm:nv_drm_load [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to allocate NvKmsKapiDevice
[17.830129] [drm:nv_drm_register_drm_device [nvidia-drm]] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to register device
I was also able to access TTY after the screen went black, but I’m not sure what to look for to diagnose the error.
I’m not particularly worried because, as I mentioned earlier, you can start the installer by selecting the “Default” option for non-Nvidia machines, and after completing the installation, use nvidia-inst -o --32
to end up with a fully functional system with Blackwell.
Thanks for the info, I was testing installer with an Nvidia 3060, and it was not acting up at all.
What Desktop you were installing ? As I saw, Gnome could have an issue where it does not load Wayland session on Nvidia in circumstances.
I don’t think it’s a problem with all Nvidia graphics cards, only with the newer ones. On a laptop with a 3050, the installer runs perfectly!
As for the question of which desktop environment I’m trying to install, none, because that error occurs during the boot sequence of the live USB ISO (which by default is Plasma right?)
oh was not that clear to me that the issue is with the ISO boot itself.
Clear now.
Awesome work to everyone who contributed in any way shape or form
It is a little uncomfortable to ask me again … But I have a little request
Can you try booting ISO (installer) while going on the Nvidia boot option and press “e” instead of enter to edit the parameters?
removing these two options:
nvidia nvidia_drm.modeset=1
leaving others intact:
Could be these entries causing the error as the Modules now loading needed options on their own.
We have managed to make progress with the changes to the parameters you suggested. At least now the boot process no longer ends with a black screen, although the desktop resolution is still incorrect and cannot be adjusted in the live environment of the ISO.
The following error continues to appear during the boot of the LIVE ISO:
[drm:nv_drm_load [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to allocate NvKmsKapiDevice
But still, it’s progress! In any case, I think a simpler temporary workaround for Blackwell users would be to boot the LIVE ISO using the “Default” option, complete the installation, and then use nvidia-inst
to finish installing the drivers successfully.
sure i only wanted to see what exactly happens, but seems only partly resolving the issue looks like new kernel and driver issue with such latest GPU. Live ISO boot is always a different thing from real boot of an installed system.
I think it’s safe to say EndeavourOS Mercury has ARRIVED!
Simply the best Distro, support and community there is, thx for all the hard work and commitment to us
Congrats on the new release, but I’m very happily sticking with my existing installs! Rolling release rocks!
Thank you so much to Bryan, Joe, and the other EndeavourOS devs who worked on this release. It’s made my Arch journey so much easier, as has the community around EOS. Hat tip to UncleSpellbinder for the new wallpaper; when it came up this morning I went “Whoa! Way cool!”
This team, in a word, rocks.
KDE plasma was good until the 6.2.4 version of powerdevil made it unusable.
Any forecast for Plasma 6.3 being made available?
Not trying to be sarcistic but have you asked your search engine?
Once it hits the Arch repos, it would be available to everyone on EOS.
Even though once you perform an online installation, you are always on the latest, as the mirrors are refreshed during installation, but in my opinion you should always run yay
after you rebooted into your freshly-installed system.
