Sometimes it is best to not use same distro on every machine.
i.e. Debian is perfect for server. In my case Debian is perfect for my travel laptop as I only use 2-3 times a year and don’t want a massive backlog of updates every time I turn it on and need stable if out of the country.
Arch is definitely more maintenance. Whole wiki page with more links in it. But it is truly vanilla linux, each package you chose for a purpose.
That’s why we are here, we can help in case of such problems.
Often many pairs of eyes solve problems faster than one, and I’m speaking or course from my own experience.
I never really thought of it, but thats perfect. EOS on main rig, debian on the rigs less frequently used. My problem is that I have debian on my work computer and just tried EOS on the other one, the other way around. And now I want EOS on my work computer.
You guys should not have released this iso, you are making my life difficult
keep in mind that it will not include setup for i3 if you install xfce4 and i3 together … only one can get themed/setup… you can choose i3 themed and xfce4 unthemed and add xfce4 theming later or opposite…
Someone (@ricklinux or @freebird54?) was curious on another thread how the install will go on very low dsl speed in rural area (generally varies between 1-7Mb download but commonly downloads at 900kb ).
This time my online install took 18min, in the previous installer it took about 40-45 min, thats a great improvement! Thanks pacman multiple downloads
Awesome! I will also check your kde+i3wm. I normally use kde, but though I give a chance at xfce since I am installing eos and had good compatibility for i3wm (uses a couple of same packages like thunar, xfce terminal, and lightdm).
Minimal is good indeed, but the initial version was a bit too minimal if you ask me. But, I saw that the gtk stuff was added back in, which is good since the default KDE install should have a consistent UI design and opening a GTK app and being frightened by the Adwaita theme is scary. .
Yesterday I noticed that there is also no included system monitor. Not the old kSysGuard (which makes sense) and also not the new system monitor.
What is the reason for not including the new Plasma System Monitor?
Tried last night on a new VM. What a great job guys! Installed base system (as always) in something like 6-8minutes (internet is not really fast at my home -.-)
