Ostorybook won't start

Hello everyone. Very new to EndeavourOS and Arch in general. My experience with Linux has been with debian-based distros, and learning Arch has been a journey to be sure.

Anyway, I wanted to write some fiction and decided to grab ostorybook from the AUR since I’ve used it before. I cloned it, ran ‘makepgk -si’ and it installed without issue, but when I go to open it, it starts to open, then immediately closes. I’m not sure what could be causing this issue. The ostorybook site states you must have Java version 8 for it to work correctly, and I checked and Java is already installed on EndeavourOS, and way above version 8.

I’m not sure if this is an Arch specific issue or I just can’t read directions. Thanks for any forthcoming assistance.

Try running it from the terminal and see if you get an error displayed there

ostor
works for me

Thanks so much. I ran it from the terminal and it wound up being a dependency issue with Java. After updating Java on my system it runs perfectly. Sorry for the silly question. Arch is still new to me.

Welcome to the forum and glad someone was able to help you fix the issue!

Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your time here.

There are no silly questions here. As long as one learns from their question, it isn’t silly.
