Well another actively developed Gentoo friendly distro is https://redcorelinux.org, or even https://cloveros.ga.
I get the urge, too, sometimes, even though EndeavourOS does everything thing I need it to, simply and fast. I don’t look for too long, though, because I quickly run into something that irks me about Distro X that doesn’t about EOS.
I actually do the same thing with programming languages. I’ve been a Rubyist since 2007, but sometimes I think i should be using something else, so I go explore options and quickly realize that I’m quite happy with Ruby.
If you just want to play it’s okay. The only reason I do it is to compare what is being done here.
This is awesome!
Okay… I’ll admit it! I’ve been playing with Anarchy Linux again. Another Arch installer …
I think Arch users all over the world had a minor heart attack.
You’re banned…
It doesn’t mean I don’t love what you all do!!! BTW, why do you still use Grub? Systemd-boot is much easier - isn’t it?
What’s difficult with Grub2?
@davidw That “you’re banned” comment wasn’t addressed to you, it was a joke towards @ricklinux for using Anarchy… (my keyboard almost melted typing Rick’s name in combination with the other Distro’s name )
setup systemd-boot gave me almost a hard attack but its in now also have specifik functions in entry’s that boots direct intoo tty
Thank goodness! I have Endeavouros on my Intel NUC, but a vanilla Arch on my Asrock Deskmini A300 Ryzen. I have played with a few Arch installers including Anarchy, but ditched them all for one reason or another. I particularly disliked Anarchy. I suppose the issue with systemd-boot is that you have to manually configure two files. The Arch wiki explains perfectly how to do this and I have found it very intuitive. With Grub, I have no idea what’s going on. It’s obviously the most popular method of booting and ‘just works’. Perhaps I should look into it more closely.
@davidw I’m sorry i think EndeavourOS were a distro - My bad!
@SGS: Funny artwork.
In the meantime i will look for the differences between grub(2) and systemd and anarchy linux and endeavourOS. What is your issue with grub or systemd? I see it like this: It starts and that’s it - but i’m a newbie and i don’t know linux.
Personal you can say Endeavouros is a Arch-distro , Even arch has iso’s but not any installers like calamares , Endeavouros distibute it on there own build iso’s , does not mean it is arch but arch-based
Ok i will say it so like you said. Am I forgiven now for my badly mistake?
Technically we are a distro, by shipping some packages as a Linux kernel and in-house developed apps by default.
Even though those extras are small in comparison to other Arch-based distros, we can’t call ourselves Arch with a GUI installer for that reason.
And because we have an installer, we already make some settings which do not come from Arch but our installer.
But everything can be changed by the user.
Awesome. So now if you wouldn’t mind helping me with urges to smoke… Quit for a month, then back on for a couple of weeks. It never seems to stop. Actually gave it up for twelve years at one point…
More to the point. I found out about Endeavour the day before the official release, quickly installed it and have loved it ever since. But, in my search for pure speed I have installed Gentoo three times since then and keep coming back to EOS. Either Endeavour is the home I’ve been looking for, or it is more addictive than distrohopping
@Bryanpwo Yes, i know…i’m a bad Arch boy.
