OK so here's a weird issue - Screen Flickering In KDE

My screen is flickering blinking to black when i move my mouse cursor.

Same both on my HTPC and main PC.

I just did an update and i did get an weird kernel panic error(blue one) and system rebooted.

After this my mouse issue showed up.

Luckily no bricked system.

I did reinstalld graphics drivers as well as Linux kernel + LTS after.

Rebooted

But issue persists.

Any ideas?

Logs:(From my HTPC)

https://paste.c-net.org/EclipseHistoric

Seems to be a KDE 6.8 issue. I don’t run KDE, but according to this bug report, a workaround is setting this:

> ~/.config/environment.d/99-kwin-flicker.conf:
>
> KWIN_USE_BUFFER_AGE=0
> KWIN_DRM_FORCE_GL_FINISH_PRESENT=1
> KWIN_FORCE_SW_CURSOR=1
>
> ~/.config/kwinrc:
>
> [Plugins]
> shakecursorEnabled=false

Possibly related:

I had this when 6.8 was released. The update to kwin 6.8.2 fixed the flickering around the cursor for me.

OK well I’ll try that next time I’m at my HTPC.

My system is up to date so it’s not fixed yet.

I can also still reproduce the flickers/black screen with mouse movement on 6.8.2 - its not fixed.

Hmmm, I wonder if it related to the Nvidia GPU drivers. I don’t have a Nvidia GPU.

“Common seems to be usage of the nouveau driver and nvidia cards.”

No it’s not. I have 3 different machines, 2 uses nvidia (3070 TI and GTX 1070). Both machines with the nvidia drivers are working just fine.
