I had the same issue. Idk if this will help but give it a try
if you are stuck in tty, press alt f2, type your username and password, then sudo nvidia-installer-dkms -n. Your system will boot normally. After that, install the proprietary drivers back. When you are done, follow the guide above BEFORE rebooting
