NVIDIA driver 550-144-03 security update ⁉

:interrobang: when will the assembly be ready?
why do I need to install official drivers via AUR?
where are they in the official repository?

We are an Arch-based Distro. We follow in line with what Arch Linux does

This does not affect the current Arch version 565.77-12 as far as I can tell. It only patches older branches such as R550.

As @thefrog @TheRaOct have stated it only affects the driver version and previous when this was put out.

Assembly will be ready when it’s ready.

My personal opinion is that it is better that they port the drivers with care rather than just dump it to mirrors and then there is a public meltdown when they are broken.

Also I don’t get it why you are using AUR for drivers. Current drivers work well with my setup both in desktop use and in gaming.

I don’t use it, but I’ll only try to install it from AUR.
probably because of this

Isn’t that the problem? That they slipped me a buggy driver.
I’ve been writing since October…

By the way, Arch sends you to the forums of assemblies - it says so there >>> go there

I have no idea of what you are talking about. I only pointed out that fact that Arch is the distro we are based on. However we have nothing to do with the decisions that Arch makes.

@Dell
You have a GTX1070 which is hardly any different than the GTX 1060 that I am using with the latest drivers 565.xx New Feature Branch. I am using it on Kde Wayland without issue on the latest kernel.

  • On a bleeding edge distro, a buggy driver is possible.
  • On a bleeding edge distro, a fix to said buggy driver is typically released quickly.
  • If a fix isn’t released quickly and the issue persists, you have to reasonably ask the question:
“Is it everyone, or is it just me?”

That’s a really important question!

If the issue impacts many people, the solution is typically upstream and sometimes all we can do is find a workaround and wait.
If the issue impacts one person, the solution is typically system specific, whether it’s hardware, configuration, corruption, etc.
