Nvidia 555 Stable

Yeh updated mine, i now get the dreaded black single line at the top of the screen in kde plasma, damn was hoping it would be better then last attempts, seems maybe more testing is needed?

Just updated and i have a lot of Kde Plasma updates as well as a the 6.9.7-arch1-1 kernel and nvidia nvidia v: 555.58 drivers on Wayland. Have zero issues.

Edit:

Nice congrats! Have fun gaming on wayland with plasma

I’ll have to stick to X11 until its fixed for myself

[luke@luke-ms7c91 ~]$ startplasma-wayland
org.kde.startup: "kdeinit5_shutdown" QList() exited with code 255
startplasma-wayland: Shutting down...
startplasmacompositor: Shutting down...
startplasmacompositor: Done.

I did think about starting a wayland plasma session when in x11, but it bottomed out, even when doing this via console before logging in through the gui it bottoms out with no error and a hard lock

Not sure about this. I see a small boarder all the way around the screen which is equal in size. It’s always been that way as far as i remember and doesn’t look out of place nor does it bother me.

Edit: It’s the same on amdgpu. There is a slight gap all the way around the monitor screen. This has always been this way. Maybe this is different than what you have.

Do you have the latest nvidia driver?

LANG=C pacman -Si nvidia | grep Version
Version : 555.58-2

Yeah i do, let me grab the output of smi two seconds

I grabbed this whilst logged into x11, as i cant get into plasma wayland

Can you show the output of

inxi -Gzac0

Yeh sure two seconds.
I did just do a full reinstall of the OS, and noted some strange conflicts of drivers when installing steam and installing the lib32 nvidia utils option. Theres another forum post on the matter that i commented on just now

If you want 32-bit drivers with nvidia-inst, then add option --32 to it.

See also: nvidia-inst -h

Okay, that helps with that command, do i do a full OS reinstall again then? As im still not getting past a black screen unless using X11

I’d suggest trying nvidia-inst with the option. Probably reinstall won’t change much.
Wayland and Nvidia are known for a few problems with some of the gpus, unfortunately. There might be a solution, but currently I don’t have any.

Maybe try uninstalling some of the lib32 vulkan stuff before considering reinstalling your OS. nvidia-inst with --32 did nothing for me.

I did find this post here, i do feel its something to do with the clash of lib32 and the 555 drivers, as the black screen ONLY came up when i had installed steam through pacman and selected the lib32 nvidia utils

Mine has the lib32 file installed. Not the AUR package.

Edit: I only have a GTX 1060 but I have no issue on Wayland.

Hmm okay then im all out of ideas. Maybe i just wait for more testing to conclude on the new drivers and kde? It seems im the only user out there with issues in thay case

I notice you have 555.58-1 but the latest nvidia drivers are 555.58-2 arent they?

Have you tried a fresh install without any gaming platforms such as steam and see if it logs into Kde on Wayland?

Not that I’m aware of.
