No Starch Press
I’m planning on purchasing How Linux Works.
Disclaimer: I do not benefit in any way from the offer. I’m just sharing good stuff with my fellow EOS users.
Yeah, the offers can sometimes be interesting (I got some print+EPUB editions in the past). Just don’t buy The Linux Command Line—it’s still the 2nd edition for a hefty price, and the 6th edition is out for free (PDF only).
In general, I find NoStarch a bit overpriced, but the books—in spite of the childish covers—are usually in the range okay to good.
The books on No Starch Press are pricey compared to Amazon, but you get eBooks without DRM and they offer eBooks in three different formats: ePUB, mobi, and PDF. You also have the option of purchasing the print and digital versions of a book for an additional $10.
Thanks for the info about The Linux Command Line.
great Linux resource. I am perusing-
2 attempts with BSD and both of them ended at my lack of knowledge. Seemed like a completely different thing than Linux.
Said I’d always try it again…I’m still looking around…need a For Idiots version that is not USD$64.00
You can get the Kindle version on Amazon for $40.00. However, the Kindle format is DRM’d. On the plus side, some Kindle books you automatically get free update editions, but I don’t know if that happens for all Kindle books.
Also, it will not cost $64.99…it will cost $42.24 if you use the discount code. Personnally, I’d spend the extra $2.24 to get non-DRM material.
