No Privacy Means No Democracy

You’re right you don’t know anything about me and again you are wrong! I don’t care to get into any discussions about what you believe or want to tell me. I want my privacy so I’ll just end this with Merry Christmas! Have a Happy New Year! :christmas_tree:

I personally believe one doesn’t really know much about anyone besides what the other wants you to know, and or what you can covertly discover.

I try only to share what i can …nothing beyond my Endeavour!

I agree with part of your premise. Some folks lack certain rights. Others have what those with few consider many. But you must know that those with many can loose them at any time. IMO the only “god given” right folks have is to off themselves. Though some don’t even have that right. Concerning privilege, I m thankful for the rights I have. Though if yin yang is familiar to you then you must know that one can not be without its opposite.

There is no way I can give properly informed consent to the bulk collection of my data whether by a private company or the state. In order to give such consent, I would need to know who the data will be disclosed to, the precautions that will be taken to prevent unauthorised disclosure, and consider all of the consequences of such disclosure. Only then can I “waive my right to privacy”.

For example, Google continues to track users while in incognito mode. If rumours are to be believed, a lot of people use incognito mode to watch legal adult content. Although legal, the unauthorised disclosure that someone watches adult content could damage that person’s reputation and lead to them losing their job etc. So “if you have nothing to hide” does not mean “if you do nothing illegal”.

Additionally, if a hacker gets hold of your personal data, this could be used to plan and execute a social engineering attack against you and people within your family, business and social circles.

So bluntly, people who “freely waive their right to privacy” are either ill informed or idiots.

What Incognito mode doesn’t do. Prevent you from telling a website who you are. If you sign in to any website in Incognito mode, that site will know that you’re the one browsing and can keep track of your activities from that moment on.

Edit:

We and i say we as in most of us are neither ill informed nor idiots. The fact is in most cases we don’t have a choice unless we don’t use the Internet and we don’t browse websites and we don’t use computers or cell phones and what ever. There is only so much one can do to keep their data private and it comes down to what data? Is it private? What purposes can and should it be used for. A lot of this is not in any ones control. Some of it is. One can only do what one can do and that is be cognizant of our actions and what they mean in the long term. Good luck and godspeed on you’re Endeavours!
