after taking a break from this, I did more digging. I think I found some hope in two patches specific to this model. I am not sure where in the process they are to being applied. I may experiment and try one or both of these.
Sorry you’re running into this. Before digging too deep, I’d check whether it’s actually detecting the audio device correctly.
A couple of quick questions:

Does sound work through headphones or Bluetooth, or is it only the internal speakers that are silent?

Which kernel version are you running?
I’ve seen a few newer ASUS laptops where updating to a newer kernel fixed audio support, so it would be interesting to know if this is a driver/kernel issue rather than a PipeWire configuration problem.

It is an issue that ASUS Zenbook’s have encountered over the years and it only impacts the internal speakers. Plugging headphones in, or using Bluetooth, will work.
Typically, it is resolved by an eventual Linux kernel update. In my case with my older Zenbook, that took roughly 6 months from the time of purchase.
Linux 7.2.2 has been released by Arch. My Zenbook now produces sound from its built-in speakers. All is well in the world.
