Strangely, I didn’t find space for more than a VM (at least yet), maybe tonight I’ll look to see if I have something I forgot and can replace. Otherwise, I would appreciate any insights anyone has!
I’ve been running Soplos OS on my ThinkPad for quite a while now. I think it’s probably my favorite Debian Testing based distro. Solid, up-to-date, and just works… without a million apps of bloat.
Having said all that, I’m intrigued by RakuOS. Immutable distros are generally not in my sphere of interest. But this seems to handle the immutable distro slightly differently. I may just have to fire it up on the ThinkPad and see how much it differs from the multitude of other immutables I’ve tried.
I was gifted a Lenovo AMD RYZEN 7000 series with AMD RADEON Graphics with a touch screen.
Just install Endeavouros KDE to try out this laptop. So far I’m liking it, not sure yet what will end up on this rig.

Mine is a Lenovo ThinkPad T14, Gen 1: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U, 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM, 14" FHD (1920x1080) IPS Touchscreen, Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics.
Currently using it as a test laptop for actual installs. I much prefer bare metal over a VM.
Hmm, a youtuber I occasionally watch is intrigued and reviewing Raku tomorrow. I’m interested to see what he thinks of it.
Unfortunately, it was supposed to be reviewed today but the ISO had an issue, two of the devs of Raku were on the chat and frantically trying to rebuild the ISO, but time ran out.
I saw some other folks like the guy responsible for Xero linux was also telepresent.

Strangely, I umm have started to. When I first ran across him, I wasn’t impressed, but his technical expertise is (apparently) growing.
It’s kinda new to me (videos), I can read so much faster than I can listen, but there’s just so much information that’s only available in video format these days.
I tend to mix my learning, while I learn best watching and doing.
Well Smokey, you know what they say about old dogs learning new tricks…it can be difficult (meaning me) and somewhat frustrating to wade through so much verbal sputtering to get to what I really wanted to know. Skipping video is sometimes an art form :0

Well, I made room on my disk by deleting my Plasma installation, moving my HyprLand to the old Plasma NVME drive. Then installing Rakuos on the sata SSD where HyprLand was.
I’m actually liking it..but time will tell, I suppose.
As we speak, out of curiosity, installing Rakuos on an old machine (2 core cpu, 4 Gb mem, 250 Gb ssd) - the install process is struggling, which is not surprising as RakuOS’s minimum requirements are:
- 4 bit x86 (x86_64) processor, 2 cores or more
- 4 GB of RAM
- 40 GB of free disk space
- UEFI firmware (Secure Boot supported)
- Internet connection for updates and package installs
I agree 1000%…I want to do what I want…when I want to my system…I guess that I’m old & set in my ways (LOL)… It may sound strange, but I enjoy it when I break my system…I learn something every time & that is what keeps me on my toes.
Well, that did not go well, unfortunately: after more than 60 minutes the install process failed.
Something went wrong with the process trying to mount /efi (as far as I could see).
Maybe trailing too close to the minimum requirements -)
I noticed when on VM (2 core and 8 gb allocated ram), it was a mite laggy. I may be spoilt from Arch.
@ExDebianuser I understand, well partially. Much of the point of this distro is an immutable base that supports overlaid software natively installed. If the available bases don’t work for you, I guess your interest would be limited. However, on his trial video, TheBlackDon took his Cosmic base, installed his own kwin based setup and noctalia and made it his own quite easily/natively/no hassles. It’s maybe not as confining as you might think. But that’s where I’m exploring…
That’s my assumption as well. But I thought I’d give it a go.
LMDE7 Gigi installs and runs just fine on that same machine.
OK…I’ll keep my mind open… But like I indicated…breaking your system by exploring what you can (or can’t do…) requires no guardrails & It “looks” like that to me… What is the point of trying & failing if you are gently set on the ground with an easy way out?
