New option in Discourse Forum Software

This is new to me. New unread selection with an extra button to go back to latest topics. Well done Discourse

AFAIK, Unread had existed for a long time already, bur the link to it needs to be enabled by the admins.

Even on Discourse forums that don’t show that link, you can manually enter the URL and it works.

And on the Discourse Hub mobile app you see the unread count and clicking it, opens up the unread tab too - so the API exposes it as well.

Anyway, it is a very handy feature and I’m glad EndeavourOS has made it prominent now too.

For me, this unread-section is not working. Actually there should be only 5 unread topics …

But there are a lot more …

When I’m working in WoltLab communities I use unread section only, to get all unread topics. When I’m done working through the topics, I mark them all as read.

This doesn’t seem to be possible here, isn’t it?

I don’t think it includes topics you haven’t already been marked as reading, so new topics or none that you haven’t shown enough interest in. At least that’s the way it seems to work.

Exactly.

My usual workflow is:

  1. check Unread for stuff I’m interested in (mark read)
  2. check New for stuff I may be interested in (mark read)

Could be the reason …

But I’m using latest section to see all topics and start reading where I stopped last time I visited.
