Nemo on Gnome 42?

I haven’t tried this myself but you might want to have a look at:

I’ve been using nemo as either the primary or secondary file manager on every DE for a couple years now

I like the fact that you can open folders as root

Hi,

I thought I might chime in to see if anyone hit the following on Gnome File Manager. I noticed that when I copy an ISO file (around 3 GB) from my harddrive HOME directory to a USB key that Nautilis will preport the file finished copying. But if you try to eject the usb key it reports the usb key is still writing.

So I tend to wonder when the files have full copied If I can’t depend on the progress bar.

I assume this is not so much about nautilus but it depends on caching done by the file system and the drive. It basically means that if the file is completely in the cache the fs reports “copy complete” back to the user space application. If you do not want that behavior you need to mount the drive with the “sync” options.

Got a stream of errors. I even asked MEGA support and said Arch is an unsupported distro.

Building it is above my pay grade, but as I have used MEGA since they began, I want to stay with using their Chrome extension while I work out hw to build it myself. Have you seen a tutorial on it, or do I need to start from the wiki?

Bummer :unamused:

If you like, perhaps you could open a new thread and post those errors. Someone on the forum might be able to help .

Thanks for sharing your incite. I remember the Windows OS having similar settings to shut of write caching settings.

So on a high level the reason the Gnome File Manager progress (pie chart) says its finished is its using the default system settings where write caching is enabled by default for devices like USB drives. So no matter while File manager it should give the same experience?

So if I get what is being mentioned in the reddit post:

(1) To insure that the files fully copied to the USB drive (which happens to be FAT32 with Ventoy) I should open up terminal and run ‘sync’ command before ejecting the USB drive.

(2) If you want to change how certain file systems are handled you can modify the default section in the /etc/udisks2/mount_options.conf.
