I have two computers with EndeavourOS. One of them is a desktop. The desktop has a 40 gbit ethernet connection to my home network and a 2.5gbit ethernet port I’m not currently using. The other computer is a laptop that I currently use on wifi. I bought a USB 3.1 2.5gbit ethernet adapter and 2.5gbit compatible ethernet cable that I connected from my laptop to my desktop and wish to have the desktop share the 40gbit connection to my laptop through the 2.5gbit port. I’ve had some minor success in that I can get the desktop to share the connection perfectly fine, but then the desktop can’t access anything but the laptop. Trying to fix that has given me a variety of scenarios where one computer can see the home network, each other, and/or the internet, but I’ve yet to get both computers to see everything at the same time. I’m not sure what it is I’m missing or what I really need to do to make this work. Any help is appreciated!
I would check this article on the Arch wiki. It might help you out.

Best way is to use a switch!
I have to agree, but I’m trying to avoid spending much money when I’m already so close to what I need. I have a large brocade switch that has eight 10Gbit SFP+ ports and two QSFP+ 40Gbit ports. I’m unsure if I’m able to get this 2.5Gbit ethernet adapter to work with the 10Gbit SFP+ ports as it appears the switch only offers 10Gbit and 1Gbit modes so my options appear to be get a 2.5G switch which seem pretty expensive (which is why I have the brocade to begin with), or share the connection. So far I’m in this about $25, but if the bridge is just too much of a hassle I’ll have to do that.
Thanks! Trying that out now. I should have thought to look there instead of google.
I hear you. I was suggesting something like this. @129.99 Cdn.
Edit They also have a 5 port which would be slightly cheaper @79.99 Cdn
I’ll look into that when it’s time to up the speed on some of my other devices. Thankfully I got it working mostly thanks to the archlinux link posted by OBXandos, however. The info in the link was a bit ambiguous, but it at least got me the info I needed to find or figure out the rest of what I was missing, like the bridge IP had to be the Desktop’s IP, not a new one, and the routing tables needing to be updated. The biggest problem was I had used multiple methods to try to configure the bridge and many things were in conflict. I also now have my wifi setup as a fallback if I never need to reboot the Desktop.
Ya that’s par for the course. I don’t find the Arch wiki very helpful because of the way things are written. They expect you to know things a lot of users don’t and think you can read between the lines and figure it out by pointing to other links instead of just explaining how to do something from start to finish.
What I did in the end was tell chatgpt to read the link then asked it what info I was missing. Chatgpt is extremely hit or miss when getting information on how to do Endeavouros stuff. I wouldn’t advise running any command it gives you blindly, but when given some context it can at the very least point you in the right direction. The commands it generates can be searched for on a search engine to find better context.
