Nautilus Libreoffice thumbnails broken

Since a while the thumbnails for libreoffice documents does not work anymore in Nautilus. Other thumbnailers work ok, like pdf, png and others.
mime-types are set up ok, /usr/share/thumbnailers/gsf-office.thumbnailers is ok, file access is ok, libgsf is installed, libreoffice-fresh is installed, strace says that nautilus finds the thumbnailer:
[@s-tp ~]$ strace nautilus 2>&1|grep gsf
openat(AT_FDCWD, “/usr/share/thumbnailers/gsf-office.thumbnailer”, O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 41
read(41, “[Thumbnailer Entry]\nTryExec=gsf-”…, 4096) = 1304
access(“/usr/bin/gsf-office-thumbnailer”, X_OK) = 0
newfstatat(AT_FDCWD, “/usr/bin/gsf-office-thumbnailer”, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=18672, …}, 0) = 0

sometimes thumbnailer leaves directories in /tmp containing two png files, not sure if that is related or not.
running gsf-office-thumbnailer manually results in a png file that seems ok.

Has anyone observe the same issue? Any idea?

looks like the thumbnailer gets an empty file presented as input. Conversion to png fails of course. obviously a bug in Gnome.

I opened an upstream issue

I would appreciate if more people gave me a feedback if they observe the issue on their computer!
