I’m absolutely pissed, you have no idea. My Pixel 7a dropped at work, and of course it landed face-down. The fingerprint sensor is screwed, and honestly I’ve got a really bad feeling the thing won’t even last a few more
days. So I ordered a new one (Pixel 9a); should be here tomorrow. I just need to transfer Aegis (2FA) and Signal messages to the new one. Reinstall all the apps, and that’s it. Some data isn’t worth the hassle, especially since my contacts are safe in Tuta Cloud.
Using GrapheneOS requires a Pixel device due to its hardware support and security features. I’ve consistently used the A-series models, and with the Pixel 9a, security updates are guaranteed through April 2032.
No way. That was just me being dumb. That’s why I’m so pissed. I was trying to put it in the car and it just slipped out of my hand. I can’t even explain that to anyone
It’s probably the same here in most cases, unless the damage is caused by something that’s the responsibility of the employer.
Say there’s a wall with a nail sticking out, and your shirt gets torn because of the nail. In such a case the employer can be held responsible, I expect.
That was literally the first time I’ve ever dropped my phone. I’m usually super careful. I do have a Spigen case, but no screen protecto. I just never thought I’d need one since it had never fallen before. Guess I’m a bit wiser now
I am also super careful (its a literal gaming phone and was super expensive). the problem is its just way bigger than expected (almost a tablet in my book) and i have small hands, so yes it took a lot of getting used to to hold it correctly so i dont drop it. but it still sometimes happens if i dont get the right grip.
But the day i ordered it was also the day i ordered the protection for it. which i will always do when getting a phone that i want to last for a couple years till it gets to slow to open a website
It’s just simple. I normally never ever have my phone with me in that part of work. No idea why I brought it today.
I don’t really play games, except maybe Super Tux Kart or Solitaire. In the doctor’s waiting room, but never otherwise
I’ll be happy if it actually arrives tomorrow. I just need it to make calls and pay bills.
i dont play on my phone much either. i just wanted something that holds long power wise. had horrible experience with low budged phones, where after a year the phone slowed down so much you couldnt open anything anymore. no apps, no browsing every press on the keyboard took a few seconds to proccess till it got displayed
now even 6 years later with this phone speed wise its still like day 1
If I dropped my smartphone, I’d be annoyed too.
These days it’s more important than my PC and practically a life-defining multitool, which seems kinda creepy if I think about it.
Lately, I’ve been eyeing the Fairphone and e/OS as an operating system. I haven’t considered GrapheneOS yet, but it looks like a very interesting alternative.
Contacts, appointments and important files are synced with my Nextcloud. So datawise it wouldn’t be a big hassle I hope.
Otherwise a new phone means a new toy to play with
Fairphone and /e/os are certainly nice. But when it comes to security and privacy, Grapheneos is unbeatable. The whole catch is that you have to enter the Google multiverse and buy a pixel so that Grapheneos runs. Since the Pixel 4a I’ve been using Grapheneos on my phones. It feels nothing is better.
yea, my next phone will probably be a pixel so i can also get graphene.
back when i got the one that i have now pixels had plenty of problems so i didnt want one but now it seems they got good the last 3-4 years ish
Usually, I use my phone to pay digitally or make calls. With the 4a and the 7a, I’ve never had any problems. Every now and then I take a photo, and that’s about it.
I know what you mean. There have been repeated reports of Pixel updates with stock Android causing significant problems.
By the beginning of March Motorola and Graphene announced a partnership so in the future there will be also Motorola devices with Graphene support. IIRC with the next generation of Motorola mobile devides they match the security component that Graphene requires for the security level.
