My PC is Freezing after opening browsers(Chrome/FIrefox)

I just installed EndeavourOS a few days ago after being on WIndows for so long. However i started having issues yesterday, when i tried opening the PC and just opened the browser the PC freezes and it just doesn’t respond to mouse clicks or keyboard. The keyboard nums lock indicator turns off as well which is another thing i noticed.

I ran this command inxi -Fxxxz and this is what the result is

Another similar issue that happened while i was on windows was that i kept getting BSOD, i got the bitmap and it seemed like it was a windows installation issue, that’s why i decided to just stop using windows and switch to Linux, however this started happening and i don’t know what is the issue. Am i cursed? Help me please.

Welcome to the community! :vulcan_salute: :enos_flag:

Please post the output of the following:

pacman -Q | grep -A 0 -E "(linux|headers|firefox|chrom)"

Thank you

Here’s the output of the command:

archlinux-keyring 20241203-1
--
chromaprint 1.5.1-9
--
firefox 133.0.3-2
--
google-chrome 131.0.6778.139-1
--

--

Okay. Forgot to add the following to the command above. Run it again, please.

pacman -Q | grep -A 0 -E "(boot|grub|refind|mkinit|dracut)"

Then afterward, run the following to test if the LTS kernel is better for your device.

sudo pacman -Syu linux-lts linux-lts-headers

You’ll then need to update your boot manager and reboot. Then finally select the LTS kernel from the boot menu.

This is the output of the pacman command:

dracut 105-1
--
efibootmgr 18-3
--
kernel-install-for-dracut 1.10.1-1
--
mkinitcpio-nfs-utils 0.3-8

Then i ran the lts command and update the boot manager, rebooted and selected the LTS kernel from the boot menu.

Alright, i tried to use google chrome to watch a video just now, and same thing happened.
The screen is frozen, and the keyboard wasn’t responsive, the mouse was responsive for a bit but then it also stopped moving and the keyboard’s nums lock shut down.

Try this with Firefox from a terminal:

MOZ_DISABLE_RDD_SANDBOX=1 firefox --disable-gpu

I tried that command and while firefox was running i tried using Youtube, it kept showing this.

ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.

and seeing your command, i thought of disabling the gpu acceleration of chrome, and firefox, and i have been opening youtube tabs to see if it freezes, but it hasn’t for the past hour. I will keep it up and see if it freezes or not (like opening 1 hour videos and seeing the result after they all finish.)

I am not sure if this is it, or not, but it is looking promising, Thank you, ddnn. I will keep you posted and hopefully it is fixed.

If it does fix it, you can manually turn off the setting after launching Firefox normally for future launches. Hardware acceleration in a browser is a “nice-to-have” kinda feature, but is non-essential for the most part. I mean, unless you play browser games.
