Not surprising that Google is spending all kinds of money and time to do everything they can to GATEKEEP
I still have the problem posted first in this thread for some videos with FreeTube.
Version v0.23.2 Beta. I think it is the newest.
yeah sometimes you have to exit freetube and then it will allow the video to load sometimes you can just reload and it works. Its very hit and miss
Are you using a VPN or TOR? Youtube requires login in those situations which causes the above error.
He is talking about the Original Error that Caused the Thread to be created. Not the Age/Membership stuff
VPN. It works good some times. Other times it is blocked. Even on the same VPN server. So it is not consistent.
always, 24/7, restrict, restrict, restrict, never sleep, connive, connive, punish, restrict. this can’t be good for anyone’s soul or karma but theirs perhaps.
It’s not about intellectual property at all, it’s about total inventory control.
The internet was born for file sharing. I really don’t think at the end of the day it can be stopped when all is said in down. The amt of energy towards abolishing the original mission is staggeringly sad
neither. just Mullvad browser with no vpn
So am I. That error can be caused by a VPN or Tor. Freetube shows that error when youtube responds with a generic login request.
Yes, if youtube is blocking that VPN IP, you will get that error. There is nothing freetube can do about that.
Using VPN, the video gets blocked when played in FreeTube but the same video plays fine when using MPV from inside FreeTube. Also MPV+url from terminal works fine.
I’m not sure the problem is that the IP is blocked by Youtube. What do you think?
That error means that youtube is marking your traffic as “Forbidden”.
There isn’t only one reason you can get that error. When I get that error, it is usually because youtube is asking me to login since it doesn’t like that it can’t identify my traffic to me.
There are a number of reasons for the above differences:
- You may be getting 403 for a different reason
- You may have imported youtube cookies or login info to yt-dlp or mpv in the past
- Something else…
Thank you @dalto for explaining!

Even with no vpn I will have occasional “forbidden” days but this state is always temporary and dependent, methinks, on “something else” i.e. a number of factors etc
