My Dad and Star Trek…
No, my dad was not a “Trekkie” or “Trekker”. He was aware of Star Trek, as everyone was, fan or not. But there was this one time, early-mid 90’s, when he watched an episode of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” with me and my brother. While I don’t remember the specific episode, I do remember his critique after the episode ended… Paraphrasing here: “I just realized that during this entire episode, it never even crossed my mind that these characters were all different species, different races. They were just people. This was just good storytelling. Now, in the 20th century, why can’t different people of the SAME human species get along like that?”
One of the best memories I have about my Dad.
Just another reason why Star Trek is so important.
