Mulvad VPN has been flagged as out of date. It’s been like 2 weeks. I wonder why the official Arch repo versions are so far behind the AUR versions.
I am pretty sure I have had a Mullvad update last two or three days
DAMN: If I can’t read properly, I should at least use a translation tool… Of course, I meant the MJullvad browser
The VPN or the browser?
The link above is to the VPN.
I hav edited my post above right as you answerded ![]()
It isn’t uncommon for repo packages to take time to get updated. Package maintainers also have lives and distractions outside of Arch.
That being said, I would never use any of those custom VPN packages. I would always use a VPN client that was open and separate from the provider.
Looks like Carl has a lot to deal with. So perhaps that’s the cause ![]()
Sorry, edited topic title to reflect VPN.
Sorry, was my fault. I overlooked the VPN in your first post.
The alternative https://mullvad-vpn-bin in the AUR is up to date and working here.
Ultimately, mullvad connections are just wireguard connections.
You should be able to use any wireguard client.
I use NetworkManager and manage it along with my network connections but you can use any of the numerous tools out there.
Thanks. Just installed it. All is up-to-date. I had to pin it to the icons-only task manager in the panel, though. It no longer shows in the system tray.
Thanks for the input. I’m just super familiar with Mullvad and how it works. I’d prefer not to learn something new and mess around with network manager. Plus, I like supporting Mullvad.
You probably need to install libappindicator which is an optional dependency for mullvad-vpn-bin.
…this is how I learned that Mullvad was in the official repos. back when I was installing it, Mullvad’s Github was pointing to the AUR package.
Perfect. That did it. Thanks @r0ckhopper! ![]()
Well yes and no, thy now use a custom version of Wireguard “GotaTun”
Sure I think thy only use it for Android ATM but thy are going to roll it out to all other soon.
Edit yes I was right:
“plan to roll it out across all remaining platforms during 2026.”
As a side note everyone should read this:
They are still supporting normal wireguard connections. If they drop those, they would kill a ton of platforms that can’t run their app.
Yes for the time being thy still support them and i think thy have some solution with GotaTun ?
I don’t think they will stop supporting wireguard connections. If they stop supporting that, they would lose the ability to work with routers, NAS and any other non-desktop/mobile device. It would even be problematic in a lot of server applications.
I think it is the opposite, I think they are bringing that functionality to their desktop client.
Humm could be. ![]()
