I noticed between Endeavour (AUR -bin) and Solus (flatpak) that recent Mullvad browser updates changed by default my DDG search to Mullvad search engine.
I love the browser–what can anyone tell me about their search engine?
Seems fine but too new to trust entirely.
Thanks for any opnion/knowledge.
the closet I get to firefox these days is Zen. I’m sure it may be in it as well or at least soon. I haven’t used any AI stuff as far as I’m aware, just have no curiosity to do so and don’t feel the need to rush into a world that is not going to be in our control. Not because of a vastly superior being, but our own laziness.
Yes, happened in my Mullvad browser too after update. The search engine changed from DDG to Mullvad Leta. I cansee mentioning of this in the changelog:
It uses Google’s or Brave’s API and performs searches by proxy from Mullvad’s servers:
REVIEW after a few days: I think the search engine blows. Like DDG used to in the very beginning but but it got really good. Blows like google doing a search except worse. Even though they scrape google–according to the literature above—so many results have nothing to do with my search terms. It’s not there yet. It will someday.
The weird thing is Brave Search also scrapes google, but their results are very different–and much more accurate–than Mullvad Leta Search. Brave is actually better than google search.
In fact I ditched my DDG addiction and went ahead and made Brave Search my default in Mullvad. Like it so far.
TLDR Version: Mullvad search engine too raw right now. Check back in 6 months to a 1 year.
