It would be much easier to convince the Public Administration to switch
Public Administration as in Government? Yep, itâs easier but absolutely challenging if they had to deal with Private Organization and/or Huge pile of Data, so theyâd at least paying for Tableau.
European government usually has better chance and more likely to switch to perceived better open source alternative.
most Governmentâs functionaries just want Excel, they wouldâve entire departments switch in no time if that was available.
If I had to work with MS documents daily, I would use ONLYOFFICE.
Thatâs definitely plausible, my personal experience is that some Government already embracing processing data, not merely gathering it. I mentioned Tableau because back when Covid run rampant, our company contracted by the government to gather data of daily patient intake, death cases and graveyard vacancy (yes, itâs that bad) and those data being presented in Government website so it can be utilized by Hospital and general public.
I care about that stuff, and I donât wear a foil hat becasue I care about that stuff. Iâm glad I have alternatives is all I can say.
Thatâs why itâs not really a port but a wrapper.
And that is okay. What I am saying is, more people doesnât care at all about those things. That is why people keep buying Android Phones and Apple stuff because they are not too concerned about privacy issues.
True words, but Ubuntu never had remorse to integrate stuff from big-tech companies.
Just a recommendation for anyone that really needs to use some Office 365 stuff.
No bashing here. In our company we use Office 365. Teams and Outlook in my case. Although the company provides Windows Laptops I could convince my boss to get a Mac - no Linux allowed/supported. But due to keyboard layout and some other oddnesses on a Mac I am still two times faster on my Linux machine. So I started to set up a separate account on that machine suiting all the needs for my companyâŚ
The outdated Linux Teams Client does not suit my needs. Missing functionality aso.
The best working combination for me was to use Edge + URL and save it as an App (a desktop file in the end starting the browser in app mode for a given office365 URL). Chrome was working well, too but Edge integrated slightly better into Gnome and Plasma from GUI integration perspective than Chrome. Firefox did not work.
So in the end all that Ubuntu does to wrap (what) is not necessary. Browser is there anyway. Just use the one that works best for you. Chrome and Edge have an app mode. Iâm now missing anything when I want to work for my company on my provate Linux box.
You can use the community version, it also an Electron app like the original MS one.
No wonder, Ubuntu is backed by a big company.
